Specialist ADHD care in Geelong

Specialist psychiatry and ADHD support

At Methsandi, we provide specialist psychiatry support for adults and adolescents aged 17 and above. We offer comprehensive ADHD assessments, support for mood and anxiety conditions, and management of a range of other psychiatric concerns, with ongoing care tailored to your individual needs.

Many people reach adulthood feeling that something has been ‘out of step’ for a long time. They may have struggled with focus, organisation or time management, or perhaps emotional overwhelm or a restlessness that doesn’t make sense.

At Methsandi, ADHD assessments are led by a specialist psychiatrist and are designed to be thorough, respectful and as clear as possible. We pay particular attention to presentations that are often overlooked or misunderstood, such as ADHD in women and professionals.

Unlike many online services, Methsandi offers continuity of care with the same private psychiatrist, through in‑person consultations and secure telehealth appointments.

If a diagnosis of ADHD is made, we work with you to create an individualised treatment plan to support your work, study and daily life.

Follow-up appointments offer an opportunity to review how things are going, adjust your plan and provide ongoing support that recognises the realities of your day-to-day responsibilities and goals.

ADHD assessments

ADHD is often thought of as a childhood condition, yet many adults live with undiagnosed ADHD that was missed or misunderstood earlier in life.

We offer thorough ADHD testing and assessments for adults and adolescents aged 17 and above. All assessments are led by a specialist psychiatrist who has a particular interest in ADHD in women and professionals.

ADHD (Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder) is a neurodevelopmental condition that affects the way a person focuses, organises, manages time and regulates impulses and emotions.

ADHD is not a sign of laziness or lack of effort.

ADHD can look different from person to person, and often presents in more subtle ways in adults, especially women and professionals, which is why a careful, specialist assessment is so important.

How is ADHD diagnosed?

At Methsandi, ADHD is diagnosed through a detailed, psychiatrist-led assessment, rather than a quick questionnaire alone. We will usually:

  • Take a detailed history of your symptoms from childhood to the present
  • Explore how your difficulties affect different areas of life, such as study, work, relationships and daily tasks
  • Ask about your medical, mental and family history
  • Consider whether other conditions (e.g. anxiety, depression or sleep problems) that can overlap or mimic ADHD, are present.

Where appropriate, we may ask for information from your GP, psychologist or other people who know you well (with your consent) to build a clearer picture.

The focus is on understanding you as a whole person and making a careful, evidence-informed diagnosis.

Throughout the process, we explain each step in every day language, so you can feel informed rather than overwhelmed.

Could I have ADHD?

People with ADHD may have long‑standing difficulties with concentration, forgetfulness, restlessness or feeling easily overwhelmed, even when they are motivated and capable.

Some people describe a pattern of ‘underachieving’ compared with their potential, frequent job or study changes, or feeling scattered and exhausted from holding everything together.

Having these experiences does not automatically mean you have ADHD, but they’re a valid reason to seek a careful assessment. An ADHD assessment at Methsandi looks at your whole story – not just a checklist – so we can understand what’s contributing to your difficulties and whether ADHD is likely to be present.

How long does an ADHD assessment take?

An ADHD assessment is longer and more in‑depth than a standard appointment. At Methsandi, you’ll see a psychiatrist for the full assessment from the beginning, rather than being moved between multiple providers.

The exact length of an ADHD assessment can vary depending on your history and needs, but you can expect enough time to talk through your experiences without feeling rushed. Your psychiatrist will let you know how many appointments are likely to be needed, and what to expect at each step, so the process feels as predictable and transparent as possible.

How is ADHD treated?

If ADHD is diagnosed, treatment is tailored to you. There is no single ‘right’ approach for everyone. Throughout treatment, your psychiatrist will explain the options in everyday language, discuss potential benefits and side effects, and work with you to find an approach that aligns with your goals and values.

How can I book an ADHD assessment?

To arrange an ADHD assessment at Methsandi you will need a referral from your GP or psychologist. Once you have a referral, please contact our reception team to discuss appointment availability, fees and any other documents you may need.

We offer both in-person and telehealth appointments. Our friendly staff will be happy to guide you through each step of the booking process.
